► (1845-1924) Poeta y escritor suizo. Fue premio Nobel de Literatura en 1919. Autor de Primavera olímpica (1904-10) e Imago (1906).

Poeta suizo. Se desempeñó como tutor privado en Rusia y Finlandia antes de escribir su primera gran obra poética, la epopeya mítica Prometheus und Epimetheus [Prometeo y Epimeteo] (1881). Su segundo gran trabajo fue la epopeya Olympischer Frühling [La primavera olímpica] (1900–05), en la que encontró el asunto ideal para desplegar su brillante inventiva y su deslumbrante poder expresivo. En sus últimos años reescribió su primera epopeya y la tituló Prometeo el paciente (1924). A pesar de ser reconocido por su poesía pesimista, aunque de estilo heroico, también escribió poemas líricos, cuentos, novelas y ensayos. Recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1919.
